CAHL - U13

The U13 program (Birth years 2014, 2015) follows the development pathway established by Hockey Alberta and competition guidelines set by the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL). At this level, players continue to build on their fundamental skills while beginning to develop a deeper understanding of the game.

Full-ice hockey is played at the U13 level, with an increased focus on team play, positioning, game awareness, and strategy. Coaches emphasize skill development, work ethic, teamwork, and sportsmanship while helping players learn how to compete in a positive and respectful environment.

Teams participate in league play through CAHL, where players gain valuable game experience while continuing to develop their individual and team skills. The goal of U13 hockey is to support player growth, encourage confidence, and foster a lifelong enjoyment of the game. 🏒

What to Expect

Families can expect a consistent and balanced weekly schedule:

  • 2 practices per week at Oilfields Regional Arena

  • 1 home game on the weekend

  • 1 away game on the weekend

  • Team Development

  • Additional Goalie Training provided by association

The U13 program requires players to have well-developed skating and hockey fundamentals prior to registration. Players must be capable of maintaining the pace of a competitive, tiered hockey environment and safely participating in all on-ice activities. This program is not intended for beginners or players with only basic skating abilities.

If, during evaluations, a player is determined to lack the skills necessary to safely participate in a competitive tiered hockey environment, the Association reserves the right to recommend placement in an alternate non-competitive or developmental hockey program that is better suited to the player's current skill level.

As part of Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) programming, away games do include travel. Most games are scheduled within approximately two hours of Diamond Valley. Travel distance is determined through the tiering process, which considers geography whenever possible; however, depending on final tier placement, there may occasionally be games scheduled outside of this range.
